I believe that what he is saying is that there is no easy road that any of us can take to get the freedoms and rewards some of us deserve. You have to work hard and go through much strife and angst sometimes (like with this guys case) to get anywhere close to the goal. You have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, put on your favorite black suit, and keep on truckin'.
In my personal experience nothing is easy because if anything was easy I wouldn't be in the foster care system now. My desire is to be free... so to relate this qoute to myself I have pass through the valley of the shadow a death a couple of times, I been through hell in my family, social, and school life by to reach my goal I need to pass through it a couple more times to reach my ultimate goal: going to college

this means that we have to fight for what you want even though you have to go to hell and back to get it. some people don't even get to there they want to be in life. you have to fight, for your right, to paaaaarrrtttyyyy.
he is saying it aint easy to get where u want to be. if u want a life of happiness, u must fight for it. u must go through an amount of struggle in order to reach happiness.
WHAT I GOT FROM THIS QUOTE IS THAT NO MATTER WHAT YOU DESIRE YOU MUST GO THROUGH A JOURNEY OF TRIUMPHS AND TRIBULATIONS BEFORE YOU REACH YOUR DESTINATION.

This qoute, to me, is saying that you don't get anywhere in life without struggles and put downs...You will never get anywhere if you don't fall...You know?

I HAVE REALIZED THAT HOW MUCH YOU TRY AND WORK TO ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING IS WHAT YOU GET OUT OF IT. ALSO WITH MORE FREEDOM COMES MORE RESPONSIBILITY.
Nothing good in life ever comes easy. Even if it did, would it still be as great? We always appreciate things more when we have had to work and struggle to get them.
Life is not easy, but possibly more so for the non-White American. Since the forced integration of the African into America, their race has gone far but are not yet at what could be considered true "freedom". They are still, to a point, oppressed by the country today, just not as openly.
